Takoradi, Ghana

We took the ship’s shuttle into the area of town where the “circle market” is. The market is about the size of a NYC block and crammed with anything you might want to buy. From plastic buckets to beads. Wax printed African designed cloth and if you had the time (we didn’t) you could be measured and a dress created for you on a hand turned sewing machine. Children, people, and interesting smells everywhere. I’ve been blessed to travel a lot and in poorer places so unusual smells and haunches of meat, fish, and flies everywhere don’t bother me. Not that I will chow down in town. We took a taxi over to Sekondi which is a sister town to Takoradi. Amazing place with so many boats coming in and big piles of fish lying on the center deck. Everything happens there from the exchange and purchase of fish to the mending of nets accompanied by a boom box or two. Guys playing cards, women cleaning fish. That’s how it goes.
