Barbados & diving

We’re in Bridgetown and tomorrow evening we head out to sea for our Atlantic crossing – 5 days. I’ve wanted to post more often and add pictures, but the internet has been slow. I’m grateful to have it, but it can be tedious. Had two wonderful dives today. The 1st at Stravo Wreck where the propeller sits 135′ down. We went down only to 112′ (that’s what my dive computer registered) and the water is so clear. Of course the whole dive was only for 29 minutes including safely stop because we were so deep. The 2nd dive was Bellbouy Reef only only 47′ where we went. But we could stay down for 45 minutes since we stayed shallow. Saw so many fish and the visibility was 100′ – best yet. There were three of us on the dive plus our dive master Roy. Roy spotted a turtle feeding which when he noticed us, the turtle came over to inspect us. He came up to with 4′ of my mask and surveyed the others in the group before nonchalantly swimming off. Then Roy speared a lion fish which are invasive in this area. He used his scissors to cut off the fins and tail and looked around for a Moray eel who might like this tasty morsel. But he ended up with no eels (or reef sharks) in the area to take it off his hands. I expect it will be on someone’s plate this evening. Off into town in the morning and then headed east to more adventure. Hoping for a non-swell crossing.

  1. Hi Laurie. Just now finding time to catch up with your travels. How healthy is the coral around Barbados? Your encounter with the turtle must have been exciting as well as seeing a lion fish which I understand is rather tasty. They are a beautiful looking fish in spite of their reputation as a deadly one.
